Please follow the steps to use advanced search features of Google and Yahoo.

  Part One Google

You will use Google advanced search to find statistical data that clearly demonstrates that the Boro is the place to be. These steps will enable you to compare a normal search to an advanced search.

1.      Go to www.google.com

2.      Search “Point Pleasant, NJ”, -note the number of results is 428,000

3.      Click on “Advanced Search” to the right of the search field add “beach” to the “But don't show pages that have...” field. Note the number of results jumps to 1,760,000

4.      Click advanced search again and add “cnn.com” to the “Search within a site or domain”

5.      How many results did you get?

6.      Click the first link to view the data on Point Pleasant

  Part Two Yahoo
Yahoo offers many more options for advanced search including: date updated, file type (web page, word doc., pdf, etc.), creative common license (free to use info, pics, videos, etc.), and site/domain specific search. These steps will guide you to locate historic maps of Point Pleasant, NJ that are free to use (creative commons license).

 

1.      Go to http://www.yahoo.com

2.      Click the “web search” button (no need to enter any text for the search)

3.      Next click “options” and then “advanced search” (on the right of the search box)

4.      Enter the following for search results: all of these words “point pleasant nj”

5.      Enter Update “within a year”

6.      Creative Commons search: check the first search check box

7.      Click Yahoo Search

8.      click on the first link to explore historic maps on Point Pleasant, NJ
