This series of lessons are designed for web design students that are ready to create their own custom logos and design elements such as background images, rollover buttons, and flash movie components.
Lesson 2: Custom Logo with Style and FX
Learn to use Photoshop Text Styles and Effects (FX)
Learn to use basic Photoshop (PS) effects to create a custom logo. You will use PS tools, options, and layers, styles, and fx to create your customize the look and affect of your logo or create the example below.

Step One
- Open Photoshop document "logoOne.psd"
- Select a text layer
Step Two
- Select a style.
- Styles are located on the right side above the layers.
- Click the style tab.
- Click the small arrow next to the three lines
- Select "Text Effects" from the menu
*hint to create different size text, like the example, select the background layer and then reselect the type (T) tool to create a new type layer
Step Three
- Select a style and PS will apply it to your text
- For the example I used "Router"
- Repeat for each text layer
Step Four
- Select the shape layer of your logo
- Locate the "fx" button on the bottom of the layers
- Click "fx" and select Bevel and Emboss...
- Click OK on the pop-up menu
Step Five
- Look at your logo and make some changes
- Use the styles for text, and fx for shapes
- Have fun and be creative!
Step Six
Save your Photoshop document as "logoTwo.psd"
